Activated Charcoal / Coconut Carbon widely used in cosmetics and soap because it works like a magnet to attract toxins, drawing impurities like dirt and oil from the pores and said to tighten pores, smooth skin and reduce inflammation. It is the key ingredient to African Black Soap (Ose Dudu), which has been prized for centuries for its natural healing properties. This gentle soap is highly sought after because of the lore surrounding its healing properties of skin conditions. Used for cleaning skin, hair, and even the dishes! Simply add the coconut carbon to your scrubs, masks, cleansers, CP Soaps and Melt & Pour Soaps and enjoy the benefits! Our recipe for CP African Black Soap lathers beautifully and is so gentle on the body.
General usage: start with 1-2% (for instance, if you have a 16 oz batch, you would start with .16 - .32 oz)
Our coconut carbon is ground to a fine powder & integrates easily into soap, but it may be helpful to wet it prior to adding to the entire batch. To do so, simply place it in a small amount of your soap base & blend well in a separate container prior to adding to the entire batch.
All natural & biodegradable.
Characteristics: Odorless, ultra-fine exfoliating powder
Shelf life: Indefinite when stored in airtight container or sealed bag with no moisture around it.
Country of Origin: China
INCI: Coconut Carbon
How is activated carbon made?
Carbonization: Raw material is placed in an airless chamber and argon or nitrogen gas is introduced into the chamber, ignited and maintains a temperature of 1112 - 1652 F.
Activation: The product is put into a kilim that 2192 F steam is introduced so as the carbon flow through pours are created. During this process they will either speed up or slow down the amount of time it is in the kilim to increase or decrease the activity (depending on what is being produced).

Coconut Oil - 9 oz
Palm Oil - 20 oz
Shea Butter - 3.5 oz
.6 oz Coconut Carbon
.5 - 1.5 oz Fragrance or Essential oil
Water - 14 oz
Lye - 4.5 oz
Preparing Lye Solution
Measure COLD water into plastic container (hot water will volcano)
Measure lye into separate container. Then, carefully pour lye into water.
Stir with either rubber, nylon, silicone or stainless steel spatula until lye is dissolved. Make sure to stir well. It is best to do this in well-ventilated room because of smelly fumes.
Place lid on container, mark "LYE - DANGEROUS" & place in an area where it cannot be spilled.
Let lye solution cool until it is below 120 F. (Cooled lye solution with "scum" on top is normal). It is okay to prepare lye solution 1-2 days in advance.
Preparing Oils & Butters
Weigh the oils and fats into stainless steel pot (no enamel because there will be problems if it chips).
Heat between 120 -140 F.
Add cooled lye solution slowly into oils and stir with your spoon for 2 minutes.
You can either add the coconut carbon directly to batch or remove a few ounces of your soap base, add it to a a smaller container & mix in the coconut carbon separately.
Incorporate coconut carbon mixture into pot.
Blend with a stick blender for about 1 minute.
Occasionally use the spoon to ensure that all solution is incorporated from sides of pot.
Mix until "trace" (like runny pudding)
Pour soap into prepared molds & leave open for 24 hours or until saponified. (If left in a cold room, it can take days to saponify).
Remove from molds & allow to cure for 4-6 weeks.
